Hi, 

to continue your derailed discussion:  Are you suggesting that dancers are somehow united, and united are able to act and show off  their might ???

From past experience there are isolated pockets, a handful of dancers who will back up their clubs,  but would not at all cooperate with anyone their club would not consider "worthy".

Dancers, in my humble opinion, are divided, fregmented,  and an easy target,  and because of the scompetitivnes, one towards another, they are not in a position to do more, than perhaps to protest as a hmogeneous group before entering the dance floor, but only  to pressure the organizers to sweep the floor.

Do not rely on dancers to be anything else but  pawns in this global war for domination of dance.

Perhaps what is needed is an Amatuer Dancers Union, to which all amatuer dancers would need to belong. It could then be put to a totally democratic vote as to which organisation the dancers wished to support with all dancers agreeing to support the winning organisation only.  This would effectively put the losing organisation out of business - Could you imagine how quickly the rival organisations would start talking and begin trying to resolve their issues then as I doubt that either would want to take the risk of ending up with no competitors!!

OK the above was said in slightly lighthearted jest but on a serious note at the present time amatuer competitors are too fragmented with no one organisation looking out for them or standing up for their rights and interests, yet in the majority it is these amatuer competitors who will be most effected by the current polical war.  There is strength in numbers and only by standing together to fight for their right of freedom of choice might they have any opportunity  to change the current collision course of the warring parties.   Personally I believe that the IDSF might have to revise their restrictive policies if they were put in a position where all competitors refused to take part in their competitions. At the end of the day they can threaten, suspend ban competitors for competing in unrecognised competitions but they cannot do a damn thing about them choosing not to compete in IDSF events.

However, this then begs the question of whether competitors would be prepared to take such an action??

You mean:  " Juveniles, Juniors ,  Senior 2 and 3  unite and  roar  in one a united voice ?"

Which language would that be in :  Chinese,  Dutch, Arabic ?  There would be tug-of-war from the start.

The only way to be heard/get attention is to hurt  their pocket.

Since it is the member countries organisations which both IDSF and WDC rely on to "send"/ provide   the 'pawns' - the same 'pawns' who bring along wallets with moneys to support the whole industry :  the film makers, the photographers, the dress makers etc. . it is the member countries which would need to fail first.

You figure how.

By the way, IDSF would not hurt right away,  being smart they included wheelchair, handicap, dancers dancing other than the 10 dances you are used to, including Polka and who knows what else,  just go to their Olympiad  and see how much fun dancers can have without W,T,F,VW,QS, R,J,PD,CH , S .  IDSF comes with good ideas,  you cannot deny it,  and it is for the dancers. What has WDC done for dancers lately ?  So what if WDC members include all famous names, the dance legends.  It happens because these greats have to belong to some organisation,  so ny a default they are with WDC.  Am I wrong in my assessment,  or ignorant ?

But tell me,  if dancers had no IDSF,  where would they dance?  Local competitions judged by local judges who  mark own students first ?  Or , should they rely on the 'dance opportunity'  created  by WDC ?   Ask  any dancer  what WDC has done for them,  and they will tell you ( if they know what WDC is )  NOTHING.

Blackpool has become  a dance tradition,  it would go on without IDSF, without WDC, all you need is to say Blackpool  and offer expensive tickets a year ahead.

I do not think  dancers can do / and will do anything.

Many of them are already unhappy , or at least complaining how things are in their own member countries,  but when it comes to even attending their annual membership meetings in own localities, they do not show up to vote  and find an excuse- some not even bother to find excuse.

In my area, you are lucky to see a show of 5 members to vote, while all current and acting volunteer officials show in full strength  supported by enough proxies to do whatever they wish,  and at a nation-wide level, the members do not have a clew what is happening.

Dancers deserve what they have as a reward for their disloyalty,  cowardliness to speak out,  apathy  to get involved for plotting and deceiving  one another ( about their teachers, frequency of lessons, hiding names of their dress makers,  some would even damage your ballgown,  your tails  if you let it hang in the change room-anything to get advantage ) 

Sorry readers,  I am not talking about the premier few semifinalists,  I am talking about the great majority of the "competitive" bottom-feeders who are the the bottom of the dancers pyramid,  those who are supposed to be the foundation.

 Some foundation, says I.....  I believe another poster has written about the competitors and how they behave- and I believe those I the elite dancers.

Analyze,  discuss but  if you try to unionize, you will do exactly what member countries have already done  with their own dancers ...they unite  them under the  dancesport  national member level..

What actions has WDC taken to help Dancers ? Have you been living in a dream?  Just as a single example .Have you not seen or heard of the recent Asian Tour where over One million US dollars in Prize money was paid to competitors. Also the World Series which consists of events like Blackpool , UK OPen , International, US Open , German Open , Dutch Open , Asian Open..  Why would the best events in theWorld want to belong to a WDC Series but not to  IDSF . One reason the WDC has promised no political interference in theway the evets are run.

IDSF insist on sel;ecting their largely unknown , unqualified adjudicators using a system that is largely secret and therefore open to corruption

. IDSF do not provide competitions only a label that is attached to many events that are run by private organisers. What do the dancers get ? Points , it's like collecting on a loyalty card , the more events you dance the higher your ranking.

WDC may be waving the freedom flag,  IDSF only try to chop down the flag pole .
